Kids get lesson in engineering at the Museum of Idaho
Future scientists, inventors and leaders of tomorrow all gathered at the Museum of Idaho for Engineers Day on Saturday.
Employees of Flour Idaho, an enviormental service company, helped guide kids as they went through some hands-on experiments. The demonstrations were a way to get kids to explore science, engineering, technology and math.
“We’re trying to enlighten and spark the interest in our youth,” said Joe Giebel, the chief engineer for the Idaho Cleanup Project. “To try to build that technical staff to support the laboratory and the Cleanup Project.”
Also on hand was special guest Vera Mulyani, the CEO of Mars City Design and the keynote speaker of the event. She created the platform to bring leaders from different areas together to design the blueprints of urban infrastructure and human lifestyle for Mars.
“I think all these activities are really the beginning of a passionate journey that these young kids are starting,” Mulyani said. “It’s really important for us to make sure that these kinds of activities keep going.”
Mulyani gave presentations to groups of students, including at My Amazing Future, an Idaho National Laboratory event that is geared toward engaging eighth-grade girls in research and opportunities in STEM.
Admission to the museum and Engineers Day were free on Saturday during select hours.
