Idaho Falls policeman killed in Layton, Utah shooting
UPDATE 5:48 p.m.:
According to the probable cause report, Blaine Reed had claimed the woman broke into his home and woke him up.
The woman and Reed had been in an on-again, off-again relationship before the night of Oct. 12. Reed told her that it would be best if they terminated the relationship.
According to reports, Reed was intoxicated on the evening of Oct. 12 and was visited by a former girlfriend. She left and Reed fell asleep.
The woman, who Reed claimed broke into his house, came after she got off work. The door was unlocked, as she said it usually was.
She then took Reed’s finger to unlock and look through his phone. She saw a message from the former girlfriend about coming over that night.
The woman said she left and then came back to confront Reed.
Reed claimed he was unaware that the woman had mande an earlier visit and that she had looked through his phone.
When the woman woke up Reed, he said she was hitting him on the shoulder.
He also said it was dark and he did not know who was in his home.
He claims he pushed the person away, grabbed a gun and turned on the lights.
The report said that, at this point, the two sides of the story become different.
The woman claimed that they argued. She also said that when she went to leave, Reed pushed her several times, carried her to the bedroom and held her down.
The woman also said that there were some threats made with a gun that were either toward her or Reed himself.
She also testified that Reed took her keys and did not let her leave.
Reed, however, said that after he pushed her from the bed, there was not any physical contact, but he said he argued with the woman until she left.
In the probable cause report, it said that the woman got a report from her chiropractor that shows some injury to her neck. She also had pictures that showed bruising to her inner arm and lower back.
Reed’s attorney said Reed pleaded not guilty to the charges and said that Reed did not hit the woman but he did argue with her.
UPDATE 2:24 p.m.:
An attorney for an off-duty Idaho Falls police officer who authorities say was fatally shot after he entered a Utah home uninvited says the man was upset after finding out his longtime friend was in a relationship with his ex-girlfriend.
Lawyer Joseph Filicetti said Friday that officer Blaine Reed called him Thursday night to tell him he felt betrayed by his long-time friend. Filicetti says he told Reed to get counseling and not do anything stupid.
Filicetti says he later found out from Reed’s sister that he had been killed. Filicetti says Reed was a “solid guy” who “wore his emotions on his sleeve.”
Idaho Falls Police spokeswoman Jessica Clements says Reed had been on administrative leave since November after he was charged in a domestic violence incident.
Filicetti represented him in that case and says Reed had pleaded not guilty to attempted strangulation and assault charges. Filicetti says Reed did not hit the alleged victim, a girlfriend, and only had a verbal argument.
Layton Police Lt. James Petre says the 35-year-old Reed was shot several times Thursday night by an unidentified homeowner in Layton, Utah, during an argument about Reed’s ex-girlfriend.
