Third-graders in Bonneville County are now published authors
Eastern Idaho now has a lot more published authors who call the area home.
Benjamin Parker’s third-grade class at Falls Valley Elementary School in Bonneville School District 93 all wrote “Ship of Dreams.” The book is about the events surrounding the Titanic.
Parker said his students did all of the research and even illustrated some of the pictures in the book.
Each year Parker teaches his students about the Titanic, and this year, he thought, “Why not turn it into a book?”
“I love seeing the kids pick up their own book and be able to tell their mom and dad, ‘I’m a published author,’ said Parker. “That just tickles my heart because the kids work so hard and when they see something in fruition like this, their excitement makes me excited and gives me the motivation to say, ‘I got to do this again. I can’t not do this.'”
Parker’s classes have published books for the past four years.
Another teacher at Falls Valley Elementary School, Melissa Grover, bought each of the students their own copy.
The class was able to donate a copy of the book to the school’s library.
