7 new freezers donated to local food pantries

A group of local donors contributed $27,330 to purchase seven new commercial freezers for local food pantries.

Five freezers were donated to the Community Food Basket, a nonprofit organized by several local churches to meet the region’s emergency food needs, and two were given to the Salvation Army, a faith-based charity and food pantry.

The Melaleuca Foundation donated $15,000, while Medical Imaging Associates and a few anonymous individuals donated the remaining funds.

Dr. John Strobel, who leads The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ public affairs for the greater Idaho Falls area, says this donation is an example of interfaith partners coming together to help less fortunate families.

When the need for the freezers became known, Strobel reached out to a few members of the community.

Eager to help, the Melaleuca Foundation and Medical Imaging Associates quickly purchased the freezers.

Rush’s Kitchen Supply, which provided the freezers at cost, has offered to set them up at no charge.
