E-bikes legislation signed into law

E-bikes are the newest outdoor craze throughout the country and here in Idaho.

They’re not regular bicycles and they’re not mopeds – which means they’re not easy to define, regulate or sell under Idaho law.

That will all change after Thursday.

Legislation that clarifies Idaho code on e-bikes was signed into law by the governor.

For those who are not familiar, e-bikes use a small electric motor to give a boost to the rider when extra speed is desirable.

This legislation is expected to be a boost to e-bike businesses and consumers alike.

This will break e-bikes into three basic categories, which will help local government decide where riders can use them, and how fast they can go.
