Deadliest holidays for drunk driving
St. Patrick’s Day is one of the deadliest holidays for drunk driving. Saturday the Idaho Falls Police Department received forty calls for service, eleven of which were alcohol-related in nature. Data shows that DUIs spike during the holidays. When a holiday falls on a weekend the likelihood of people who choose to drive under the influence increases. This does not appear to be the case for Idaho Falls. In 2018 the IFPD report system shows that they had 9 DUIs for the dates of March 17th and March 18th and for this year’s St. Patrick’s day weekend they only had 3 reported DUIs. The IFPD would like to remind the public if you are intoxicated and are unable to get a ride home and choose to walk, stay on the sidewalks. Walking on the roadway while under the influence is a criminal offense in the state of Idaho.
