Discovery Hill Bluffs Road temporarily closed over high erosion threat

The BLM Salmon Field Office temporarily closed Discovery Hill Bluffs Road due to highly erosive soil conditions Monday.
Idaho’s weather is changing by the minute, and continued moisture is affecting some recreational areas. The road will open as soon as soil conditions dry out enough to reduce erosion concerns.

“Safe and stable roads are key parts of the recreational opportunities on the Salmon Field Office,” said Linda Price, BLM Salmon field manager. “That requires us to take active steps if problems with road conditions exist.”

The freeze and thaw cycle, combined with high amounts of precipitation, have created road conditions susceptible to severe rutting and erosion. To prevent future damage and reduce repair costs, the field office has decided to close the area to motorized travel until soil conditions improve.
