Jackson studying parking plans
The Town of Jackson has scheduled two public meetings to outline details of a new Draft Downtown Parking and Mobility Management Plan. The plan looks at ways to improve parking availability, reduce traffic congestion, and increased pedestrian and bicycle mobility in the Town Square and surrounding areas.
Consultant Kimley Horn’s plan focuses on the summer peak parking congestion that includes locals, employees, and tourists.
“Nearly everyone has a strong opinion about parking in the Town Square area,” said Paul Anthony, Principal Planner for the Town of Jackson. “Our downtown is the heart of the community and it’s a place that we all experience together.”
Town officials said the goal of the plan is to ensure that downtown parking contributes to the town’s economic vitality and reflects the community’s character. It will also outline a long-term framework to address the funding and staffing levels needed to implement various recommendations.
Horn will outline recommendations during a public open house Tuesday, April 9 from 6 p.m. till 8 p.m. at the Wort Hotel Jackson Room.
The Town Council will hold a workshop on the plan Wednesday, April 10 from 10 a.m. to noon in the Council Chambers.
Public comment will be accepted at a later time, when the plan goes to the Planning Commission and Town Council later this spring.
