Man arrested for possession of marijuana after disturbance

Bonneville County Sheriff’s deputies in the Ammon Division responded to a disturbance at a residence on the 2600 block of Salmon St. Sunday around 6 p.m.

Deputies report the suspect, 22-year-old Oscar A. Ortega of Ammon, was in or around his vehicle threatening the reporting party that he would break into the residence if they didn’t let him in.

As deputies arrived, they located Ortega inside his vehicle in front of the residence and were able to detain him. They located a handgun in the door of the vehicle and could smell the strong odor of marijuana coming from inside.

A search of the vehicle found several containers of marijuana amounting to just over three ounces along with drug paraphernalia used for smoking marijuana.

Ortega admitted to deputies the drugs and paraphernalia belonged to him.

Ortega was taken into custody and transported to the Bonneville County Jail where he was booked for felony possession of marijuana and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

During the booking process, deputies located two pills inside Ortega’s clothing determined to be controlled substances.

Ortega admitted to deputies the pills belonged to him, and he did not have a prescription for them.

Ortega was also booked for misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance without a prescription.
