New Xbox driving simulation helps Idaho drivers

Most of us probably think that teenagers spend too much time playing video games, but there’s one game parents might encourage teens to play to help them learn how to drive.

Driving a car is one of the most dangerous things teenagers will do and there are some driving conditions parents and teachers can’t prepare them for.

Bonneville County Sheriff’s Sgt. Bryan Lovell said, “Our part of Idaho has a lot of rapidly changing weather conditions on the roads. Drivers in our area that have been driving for a long time probably, for the most part, are used to driving in those conditions but we still have people that get relaxed about it and don’t pay attention to those conditions and this may result in a crash.”

A company called Virtual Driving Interaction has made thousands of driving
simulations systems for teens during the last 12 years and now it has found a way to help teens, right in their homes.

Founder and CEO of Driving Essentials, Bob Davis, said, “We have never been able to reach the majority of teens in the United States unless they happen to go to a school that has driving simulators. We couldn’t reach them so we decided that we would take the most popular teen driving simulation course and move it to an Xbox so that we could reach everybody in their own living room.”

Driving Essentials was released on the Xbox One last week and now available for use.

“The biggest thing about using Driving Essentials, more than any other type of training, is it allows you to experience dangerous situations without ever being in danger,” Davis said. “There are all of these things that adults, even after years of driving, have run into situations and at the very best it’s just something scary and at the very worst you have crashed in the situation.”

Driving Essentials is considered a great tool for teens and adults learning how to drive.

The system is now available for Xbox 1 users, and the company expects the program to come out for the PlayStation 4 later this year.
