INL scores high on LGBTQ equality
The Idaho National Laboratory scored 90% on a recent review of corporate policies and practices relating to LGBTQ workplace equality.
The nation’s premier benchmarking survey is called the Corporate Equity Index (CEI) and reviews policies as administered by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. The 90% score makes INL the highest scoring business in Idaho, leading the way in inclusive practices. According to INL, it reflects a commitment to LGBTQ workplace equality through tangible policies, benefits, and practices.
“Many of these top-scoring companies have also become vocal advocates for equality in the public square,” said HRC President Chad Griffin. “Time and again, leading American businesses have shown that protecting their employees and customers from discrimination isn’t just the right thing to do — it’s also good for business.”
INL scored particularly high in four areas including:
— Equitable benefits for LGBTQ employees and their families.
— Supporting an inclusive culture for everyone.
— Internal and external support of an inclusive culture from senior leadership.
— Nondiscrimination employment policies and practices for LGBTQ employees.
“Recognitions like this help solidify INL as a top employer of choice. We want the best candidates for our positions, no matter what their background is,” said Juan Alvarez, INL’s deputy laboratory director for Management and Operations and chief operating officer.
The 2019 CEI evaluates LGBTQ-related policies and practices including nondiscrimination workplace protections, domestic partner benefits, transgender-inclusive health care benefits, competency programs, and public engagement with the LGBTQ community.
