Texas oil company to pay Idaho penalty for acid in well
A Texas-based oil company that injected acid into a well as part of a process to improve production will pay Idaho $8,000 in civil penalties.
The Idaho Oil and Gas Conservation Commission on Tuesday voted 5-0 to approve the agreement with Alta Mesa.
State officials say Alta Mesa violated two Idaho codes.
The first involved performing a well treatment without first obtaining approval from the Idaho Department of Lands. The second violation involved the company failing to report the well treatment promptly.
Michael Christian, an attorney representing the company, told the commission that workers didn’t realize an application for the treatment needed to be made.
He says new procedures have been put in place.
