Bonneville County Democrats hold 2019 Truman Banquet
Bonneville County Democrats held their annual Truman Banquet in Idaho Falls this evening. This is an opportunity for local Democrats to connect with their fellow progressives while hosting their main fundraiser for the year. Jeremy Gugino, communications director of Reclaim Idaho, said: “Well, we think this event is really a celebration of Idaho values. Whether it’s Medicaid expansion, whether it’s fighting for our constitutional rights, Reclaim Idaho is a statewide organization that reflects the values of the vast majority of Idahoans. That’s why we are here because we want to be with people that celebrate Idaho values, whether they come from Idaho Falls or from Sandpoint or all points in between.”
Reclaim Idaho volunteers had a table at the event where Reclaim Idaho Executive Director Rebecca Schroeder spoke on their behalf. She believes that Medicaid expansion can help fight the opioid problem. Schroeder said: “Medicaid expansion will provide increased access to treatment programs for opioid addiction, and just last week, Gov. Brad Little discussed tapping into Medicaid funds to treat the opioid crisis statewide. Medicaid expansion can and will be a lifeline for communities struggling with opioid addiction, and those in Bonneville County know how serious that problem is.” After hearing from all the guest speakers, the banquet continued with a silent auction and a dessert auction. Attendees then simply enjoyed the rest of the night socializing and listening to jazz.
