Students take a break from phones and screens to get community out and about
It is no secret we all love our screens, whether it be a cellphone, computer or TV. In honor of National Screen-Free Week, students at Thunder Ridge High School in Bonneville County traded in their tech for a day of fun outside for Thunderfest on Saturday.
“Raise more money to get out students to do more screen-free activities and dances and just get them more involved in the school,” said Chloee Lindsay, a junior at Thunder Ridge High School.
The school has been hosting events and challenges all week to get students off and away from their phones.
Thunderfest helped add to the event by challenging not just students, but the whole community to get out and about.
“Our main goal is just to get everyone out and active and off their phones and enjoy nature and come have a good time,” said Star Corona, a freshman.
Saturday morning’s Thunderfest was full of events to do, like carnival games, making cotton candy and sno-cones, a dunk tank, a garage sale and a 5K run.
“It was a little bit of a collective idea. I had the idea of doing a garage sale and our seniors had the idea of doing a 5K, so we just wanted to combine it into one huge, fun day,” Lindsay said.
All proceeds from Saturday’s Thunderfest go to Thunder Ridge school activities.
