Unsafe safe is heart of new scam
The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office is sounding alarm about a new scam.
According to investigators, a caller claims they will send you a safe with money in it.
When the safe arrives, all you have to do is pay taxes and fees. After you pay them, the caller will give you the combination to the safe.
What surprised deputies was that the scammer actually sent a safe with things in it. The deputy suspected that was to try to convince victims it was all real.
On the bottom line, the Sheriff’s Office said there is no money, but you might end up with some random papers, books and tablets.
