Wife thanks doctors as recovering Montana trooper heads home

The wife of a Montana Highway Patrol trooper who is recovering from a traumatic brain injury after being shot three times is thanking the medical team who gave them “the fighting chance we needed to get through this.”

Lindsey Palmer made her emotional comments Wednesday at the University of Utah Health in Salt Lake City shortly before her husband, Trooper Wade Palmer was to be released from the hospital and flown back to Montana.

The 35-year-old trooper was shot in the neck, face and head on March 15 while investigating a fatal shooting in Missoula.

Dr. Ramesh Grandhi, Palmer’s neurosurgeon, says Palmer isn’t able to speak but often seems to understand what is being said.

Lindsey Palmer says she and her husband are excited to return home to their two children.
