Parents file suit over jail death of their son

Former Bannock County Coroner Kim Quick and his wife, Shauna, are filing a tort claim lawsuit against Bannock County Sheriff Lorin Nielsen and Bannock County Jail in connection to the death of their son.

According to the suit, 40-year-old Lance Quick was booked into the jail on a misdemeanor complaint of DUI on December 8, 2018. He died in custody six days later.

The suit alleges that jailers failed to provide him medication for a mental health issue or transport to a hospital for treatment. It alleges Lance began to suffer and would not eat or drink until he ultimately died of dehydration on December 14, 2018.

MMJ Brady Halbleib is covering this story and will have full details coming up with Local News 8 at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. and KIDK Eyewitness News 3 at 5:30 p.m.
