CWC moves towards Bachelor degree programs

Central Wyoming College, which operates an outreach center in Jackson, is preparing to begin offering Bachelor of Applied Science degrees.

In a special meeting Wednesday, the Board of Trustees unanimously approved a resolution to begin the approval process. As is customary with new academic programs, the next steps will include seeking required approval through the Wyoming Community College Commission and then the Higher Learning Commission.

“Combined with CWC’s internal approval process, these detailed approvals will ensure that any programs will fit within CWC’s mission and Board Ends, serve Wyoming state goals, meet standards of academic quality and rigor, and serve students well,” said Director of Institutional Effectiveness and Accreditation Liaison Officer Louisa Hunkerstorm.

She said the move to four-year, community college degrees is a growing national trend, because they offer an opportunity for students to continue their education beyond an Associate Degree level at an affordable price while staying in their local communities.

The degree offerings may be tailored to suit a community’s specific workforce needs and may be more applied or technical than the focus of typical four-year university degrees.”
