Teacher of the Year awarded big check
KIDK Eyewithess News 3 anchor Todd Kunz crashed the assembly at Grace Lutheran School in Pocatello Monday morning. The teachers and students didn’t seem to mind. In fact, they loved it.
Kunz brought with him some representatives from Valley Office Systems-Richo and Domino’s Pizza.
The group was there to award a $1,500 check to teacher Rick Torres. He is the KIDK Eyewitness News 3 Teacher of the Year.
“It’s been a lot of fun. It was a big surprise. As you can see, the excitement in the crowd. So it’s a lot of support and I feel very humbled that people think I’m doing a good job and now it’s a challenge to keep doing that and to serve the children of Grace Lutheran Church and School. To me, it’s a continuation of my service to my fellow citizens and my fellow Americans and my friends,” said Torres after the assembly.
Torres used to serve in the Army and later with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. He gave it all up to become a teacher.
The money was donated by Valley Office Systems-Ricoh and Domino’s Pizza. This was part of the Teacher of the Month contest from KIDK Eyewitness News 3. Torres was voted as Teacher of the Year by viewers.
