Shelley man announces his campaign for US Senate

A local farmer wants to add his name to the November ballot for U.S. Senate.

Travis Oler announced his campaign to be a U.S. senator Friday.

The Shelley native wants to give a voice to farmers in the Gem State.

The Democrat has never held office before, but his interest to start the campaign grew earlier this year during the partial government shutdown.

Oler considers himself pro-business and pro-farming. He said that he is opposed to corporate welfare and President Donald Trump tax cuts.

“I’ve been tired of watching what Trump and Senate Republicans, like our Idaho senators, Sen. Crapo and Sen. Risch, drive agriculture into the ground in particular and sending the deficits sky high,” said Oler. “I’ve actually been so frustrated that it’s actually a relief to be able to do something about it. That’s what we as Americans and as Idahoans need to do.”

Besides farming, Oler also runs an internet marketing business, First Page Platinum.
