Future of Jackson Game and Fish office still uncertain
The future of the Wyoming Game and Fish Department’s Jackson regional office is still uncertain.
During meetings in Cheyenne this week, Commissioner Pat Crank said, “For fairness to our employees and the public, we need to take action.”
The state has ongoing concerns about the cost of property and the cost of continuing to do business in Jackson.
The commission plans a work session in November with a goal of determining its final decisions by January.
The commission and department staff will do an in-depth review of its most cost-efficient actions. Those could include purchasing homes, building homes and working with affordable housing organizations, or simply moving the regional office and some employees to another location. That location could be Pinedale.
The commission said it would also consider opportunities to generate revenue, like selling certain commission-owned lands in the area.
Meanwhile, Game and Fish will move forward with plans to build a new regional office in Cody. The commission has finalized purchase of over 21 acres to house it, about one mile northwest of Cody off the Belfry Highway. That is closer to town than the current location and should offer more space for services, including license sales, public assistance, parking, and an ADA accessible meeting location.
