Man who shot wolf in Grand Teton given conditional license

A big game hunting guide who illegally killed a wolf in a Wyoming national park has been granted a probationary license.

The Jackson Hole News & Guide reported the Wyoming State Board of Outfitters and Professional Guides granted Brian Taylor a one-year, conditional outfitters license last month.

The board voted to approve the penalty proposed by a three-person investigative committee after members who participated in the investigation recused themselves.

Taylor pleaded guilty to unlawful take of wildlife for shooting the wolf Dec. 31 in Grand Teton National Park.

The Kelly resident was fined $5,040 and lost his wolf-hunting privileges for a year.

The Gros Ventre Wilderness Outfitters owner says the wolf’s death was a “regrettable mistake.”

A Humane Society representative calls Taylor’s conditional license a “nominal punishment.”
