MANCHESTER, New Hampshire (WMUR) — The remains of a person found on a trail in Manchester have been identified as a woman reported missing in 2015.

According to Manchester police, the remains were identified as those of Nancy Burgess, 51, of Manchester. Her remains were found on the Rockingham Trail off Candia Road on Apr. 23. Her death was not recent or deemed suspicious by officials.

Chief Aldenberg of the Manchester Police Department expressed condolences to the Burgess family.

“Regardless of how much time has passed, missing person’s cases remain open and our detectives continue to investigate,” Aldenberg said. “While this outcome is unfortunate, we are hopeful that this information provides some level of closure for the family.”

Officials acknowledged the incident caused concern in the community and offered reassurance that the recreation areas are safe.

“After six years of not knowing, I hope Nancy Burgess’ family, friends and our community finds some measure of closure. My thoughts are with her family during this difficult time,” said Mayor Joyce Craig. “This case is an example of how the Manchester Police Department continues to search for answers for families and community members impacted by tragic incidents such as this.”
