TOKYO (AP) — A U.S. bomb from World War II has exploded at a Japanese airport, causing a large crater in a taxiway and the cancellation of more than 80 flights. No one was hurt, and no aircraft were nearby when the bomb exploded Wednesday at Miyazaki Airport in southwestern Japan. It had been a training site for Japanese navy pilots during the war. Several unexploded U.S. bombs have been unearthed in the area. The cause of the blast is under investigation. A video recorded by an aviation school showed pieces of asphalt spewing into the air like a fountain. The crater left behind was reportedly about 21 feet across and 3 feet deep. The damage was repaired and flights resumed Thursday morning.
