Trudeau says Americans are realizing Trump’s tariffs on Canada would make life a lot more expensive

TORONTO (AP) — Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says Americans are realizing that “tariffs on everything from Canada would make life a lot more expensive” and says he would retaliate if Donald Trump imposes them. Trump later responded by calling Canada a U.S. state and Trudeau the governor. Trudeau also said Monday that dealing with Trump on trade will be “a little more challenging” than during Trump’s last term because the president-elect’s team has clearer ideas of what they want to do right away this time. Trump has threatened to impose a 25% tax on all products entering the U.S. from Canada and Mexico unless they stem the flow of migrants and drugs.
