Yellowstone National Park to mark 150th anniversary in 2022

BOZEMAN, Mont. (AP) — Yellowstone National Park is about to turn 150 years old. Yellowstone Superintendent Cam Sholly says officials want wants to use the March 1 anniversary to recognize the many American Indian nations that lived in the area for thousands of years before the park was created. Native Americans fished, hunted, gathered plants and obsidian and used the thermal waters in the area. President Ulysses S. Grant signed the Yellowstone National Park Protection Act in 1872, setting aside one of the world’s largest nearly intact ecosystems. In August, multiple Tribal Nations will participate in installing a teepee village near the park’s Roosevelt Arch.
