Investigators: Salt Lake officer justified in shooting
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Salt Lake County prosecutors have ruled an officer was justified in shooting a man who fired a gun at him and attacked another officer.
District Attorney Sim Gill told reporters Friday Officer Charles Saulnier will not face any charges in connection with the shooting of Eric Pectol on Sept. 17.
Pectol was hospitalized after the shooting and survived but denied shooting the gun.
Gill wrote in his decision that Pectol presented an immediate threat when he disarmed Hudgens and when he shot at Saulnier, who returned fire.
Pectol was on parole at the time of the shooting and is now at the Utah State Prison.
