Former Fremont County teacher arrested for rape of minor
FREMONT COUNTY, Idaho (KIFI) - A woman was arrested and charged after police said she gave drugs to a minor and had sex with him.
36-year-old Jessica Lawson was arrested after a traffic stop.
An officer stopped the car, which was later identified to belong to Lawson because it didn't have visible tail lights on. The driver was a male minor.
He said Lawson let him drive the car because she was too drunk to drive. He also admitted to having marijuana.
The minor's parents told the officer that he told them Lawson had picked him up the night before and took him to her house.
The boy later said Lawson got drunk and he got high before they had sex with each other.
During an interview, the minor said Lawson had given him marijuana while he was at her house and then they had sex.
Lawson later called the boy's mother and admitted to picking him up, driving him to her home and giving him alcohol.
Lawson claimed she did have marijuana in her home, but had not given any to the minor. She also denied anything else had happened.
Jessica Lawson was a teacher at South Fremont High School from 2021 to 2023.
She was arrested and booked into Madison County jail. Her bond is set at $250,000.
A no-contact order was issued for the minor. No further court hearings have been scheduled yet.
If Lawson is convicted, she could face up to life in prison.
