UAMPS awards Idaho Falls councilman Elected Official of the Year

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI) – Idaho Falls City Councilman Tom Hally was recognized Wednesday in Salt Lake City, Utah, as the Elected Official of the Year by the Utah Associated Municipal Power Systems, or UAMPS.

The award recognizes an elected official who has shown vision and unusual devotion in the performance of their duties, and who has made exceptional contributions to enhancing services from their local utility, public power or UAMPS.

Hally was first elected to the Idaho Falls City Council in 2004 and during his tenure has served as the City Council President as well as the liaison to Idaho Falls Power. A member of the Idaho Falls Power Board for more than 20 years, Hally’s nomination cited his talents in economics on the Idaho Falls Power Board for helping make sound long-term decisions and proper capital planning for the organization.

“Tom has always been a vocal voice and supporter of public power and Idaho Falls Power,” Idaho Falls Power General Manager Bear Prairie said. “Tom has an Economics degree and always brought business sense to the council and promoted Idaho Falls Power…[he] is a deep thinker on macro and micro economic principles. He reads, listens and actively participates to promote public power.”

Hally was presented with the award for Elected Official of the Year today during the UAMPS 2021 Annual Member Meeting.

UAMPS provides comprehensive wholesale electric-energy, transmission, and other energy services, on a nonprofit basis, to community-owned power systems throughout the Intermountain West. UAMPS members are located Utah, California, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico and Wyoming.
