IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI) — Getting insurance is one of the best ways to prepare your belongings for the unexpected. Current events are reminding renters and business owners to consider insurance as a an option.

Recent thefts in Rexburg have left some apartment tenants with damaged or stolen property. Businesses in St. Anthony are still recovering after a fire on the intersection of Bridge and Main St. Plus, with an active flood advisory for the Portneuf area, local property could soon see water damage.

According to, "The average renters insurance cost in Idaho is $174 per year or $15 per month for coverage limits of $40,000 for personal property coverage, $100,000 in liability coverage and a $1,000 deductible."

As for business insurance, factors like industry, location, operations and number of workers influence the cost of coverage.

According to, small business owners in Idaho pay an average cost of $43 per month for general liability, $25 per month for worker's compensation and $49 per month for professional liability insurance.
