1 killed in crash near Swan Valley

SWAN VALLEY, Idaho (KIFI) - UPDATE: Idaho State Police investigated a single vehicle fatality crash on US26 at milepost 369, just west of Swan Valley Monday at 11:00 a.m.

According to police, 21-year-old Marie J. Walker of Iona was driving eastbound on US26 in a 2001 Chevrolet Metro. Walker failed to negotiate a curve and went off the left shoulder. The vehicle went down an embankment, rolled and came to rest on the passenger side. Walker was ejected and succumbed to her injuries on scene. Walker was not wearing a seatbelt.

The eastbound lanes were blocked for approximately four hours. Idaho State Police was assisted by Bonneville County Sheriff's Office, Swan Valley Fire and EMS, Idaho Falls EMS, Idaho Falls Police Department and Air Idaho.

Next of kin has been notified.


ORIGINAL: Holiday travelers have been backed up most of the day west of Swan Valley.

A car rolled down an embankment on the hill near Antelope Flats.  

Officers say one person was killed.

Emergency crews are working to remove the wreckage.

The accident has caused traffic to back up for miles as people are trying to get home from the long holiday weekend.
