RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Democratic U.S. Rep. Elaine Luria and GOP challenger Jen Kiggans have faced off in a combative first debate in their closely watched race to represent Virginia’s coastal 2nd Congressional District. The swing-district contest between Luria and Republican state Sen. Jen Kiggans is among the most competitive in this year’s midterms and will help determine whether Democrats will maintain control of the U.S. House. The two Navy veterans tangled Wednesday over federal spending, the economy and abortion restrictions. The candidates are set to meet for two other similar events before Election Day.
