WASHINGTON (AP) — Congressional supporters of Ukraine say they won’t give up after a bill to keep the federal government open excluded President Joe Biden’s request for more security assistance for the war-torn nation. Many lawmakers acknowledge, however, a political landscape that is growing more challenging as the war between Russia and Ukraine continues with no end in sight. On Saturday, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy kept additional Ukraine aid entirely out of a measure to keep the government running until Nov. 17. A Senate package would have added $6 billion for Ukraine, but senators went along with the House action to avert a shutdown that would have begun early Sunday.
