Strong earthquake and several aftershocks reported in western Afghanistan
ISLAMABAD (AP) — A strong earthquake with several aftershocks has been reported from Herat province in western Afghanistan, according to an eyewitness. The United States Geological Survey says reported a pair of 6.3 magnitude earthquakes hit western Afghanistan Saturday. The USGS says the epicenter was 40 kilometers northwest of Herat city and followed by an aftershock with a 5.5 magnitude. Herat resident Abdul Shakor Samadi says at least five powerful earthquakes struck the city around noon. Samadi says people there are out of their homes and houses, offices and shops are all empty as residents fear more earthquakes.
