DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Winter storms have been walloping the U.S. with blizzards, tornadoes and flood threats and are now plowing through the Northeast with high winds and heavy rain. The National Weather Service is warning of possible major flooding Wednesday morning in portions of Long Island and along streams and rivers throughout the Tri-State area. New Jersey declared a state of emergency Tuesday afternoon and New York City officials evacuated nearly 2,000 migrants who were housed at a sprawling tent complex. The same weather system already brought heavy rain, hail and at least three reported tornadoes to the South. Meanwhile, many areas of Florida face the threat of flooding. And the snowy Midwest is being warned that temperatures could drop dangerously low in the next few days.
