Hundreds of thousands of people in the Houston area likely won’t have power restored until next week, as the city swelters in the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl. Frustrations are mounting over the recovery effort in the nation’s fourth-largest city. State officials have faced questions about whether Houston’s power utility, CenterPoint Energy, was sufficiently prepared before Beryl came ashore Monday and began knocking down trees and power lines. CenterPoint has defended its preparation and response, and says it has brought in about 12,000 additional workers from outside Houston to expedite power restoration.
