Spanish prime minister discusses Ukraine and trade during meeting with Xi in China
BEIJING (AP) — Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez discussed trade and the conflict between Russia and Ukraine during a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping and other top officials during his second trip to China in a year and a half, the Spanish government says. The trip comes during a spat over the import of Chinese electric cars that has sparked possible trade retaliation from China. Chinese state broadcaster CCTV said the two leaders both made statements in favor of free trade and promotion of cultural exchanges and tourism, but did not announce any specifics in the ongoing electric vehicles dispute. Spain was among the European Union members that expressed support earlier this year for a 36.7% tariff on Chinese electric vehicles.
