Chukars lose series opener in Billings, fall 3.0 GB of a playoff spot

BILLINGS, Montana (KIFI) - In their most important and final series of the season, the Idaho Falls Chukars started it with a whimper, losing to the Billings Mustangs 5-2 on Labor Day.

Jose Reyes started the game off right with a solo home run in the 1st inning, but Billings immediately tied it up in its first at-bat.

The Mustangs then took the lead for good with a three-run 5th inning, and they ultimately won by three runs as well.

That pushes the Chukars to 3.0 GB of the Mustangs for a playoff spot with five games left in the season, which means Idaho Falls must win at least four of their remaining games, and maybe all five to have a shot at a playoff berth.

Next up, game two of the series is set for 6:35 p.m. in Billings Tuesday night.
