Heavy Snow continuing tonight and into Christmas
TONIGHT: Heavy snow showers are currently covering most of eastern ID, central ID, and western WY. We are expecting this widespread snow to persist into the overnight hours especially for central ID and western WY. While, the Snake River Plains and Magic Valley will likely get some breaks from the snow with off and on snow showers. Winds will be very gusty through tonight with the winds being sustained between 20-30 mph for most of the region. Gusts can get up to 40 and 50 mph. Low temperatures get down to the upper 20's.
CHRISTMAS EVE: Snow continues into tomorrow, but they are looking to be less frequent. Heavy snow showers and gusty winds up to 20 and 30 mph will still be present, but there should be more breaks and gaps between snow storms than the showers that we are seeing today. High temperatures take a slight decrease to the low to mid 30's.
CHRISTMAS/LONG TERM: Snow is in the forecast for Christmas and continuing for consecutive days until the middle of next week at least. After this entire spell of snow is done, accumulation of snow looks to be around a half a foot to maybe even a foot in the valleys while the mountains could get up to 2 feet of snow. Winds will continue to be very gusty all the way until Wednesday of next week. High temperatures during this time will look to drop down to what could be our first arctic cold air of the season. High's are in the low to mid 30's for Christmas Eve and Christmas, drop to the 20's for Sunday and Monday, and then further plummet into the 10's for the rest of next week with lows threatening to go below 0.
