Evacuation orders lifted for some in Jackson

UPDATE Sunday, Sept 1, 9:35pm:

Teton County Emergency Management released the following:

The “GO!” stage evacuation order has been lifted for the Deer Ridge/Hillside Condos and Grand Designs building. Residents of this area can return home at this time. The “Set” evacuation preparation stage has been lifted for Spring Creek Ranch/Resort, Amangani Resort, and Pine Siskin Drive. Residents in this area can resume normal activities.

“GO!” evacuation order stage remains in place for residents of Saddle Butte subdivision, and it will remain in “GO!” throughout the night. If you have been evacuated and need assistance of any kind, the American Red Cross of Wyoming is ready to help. Please call their hotline at 307-222-8272 to speak to a Red Cross disaster assistance team volunteer to get you help.

UPDATE Sunday, Sep. 1, 7:30 p.m.:

30 homes in Jackson have been evacuated because of a wildfire that started Sunday afternoon.

The fire is burning on the East Gros Ventre Butte northwest of Jackson. As of 7 p.m. Sunday, the fire has burned approximately 250 acres.

Three helicopters and a heavy air tanker are helping battle the Saddle Butte Fire, according to the Teton County Emergency Management.

The fire started near the Virginian Lodge on West Broadway around 1:30 p.m. It’s still unknown how it started.

No homes have been burned and no one has been injured from the fire.

Red Cross is working to help evacuated families find shelter and food, they said.

The evacuated area includes the Hillside/Deer Ridge Condos (580 and 590 Blocks of W Broadway), Grand Design Building and Saddle Butte subdivision.

Other homes and areas are in set mode, meaning residents should be prepared to leave if the fire gets near.

That area includes: Spring Creek Ranch and Spring Creek Resort, Amangani Resort, Pine Siskin Road.

Earlier, officials called the fire the Virginian Fire but changed it.

People in the Jackson Hole area are being ordered to evacuate because of a wildfire.

The evacuations are:

Hillside/Deer Ridge Condos (580 and 590 Blocks of W Broadway) Grand Design Building Saddle Butte subdivision

The wildfire is burning the hillside to the north of Jackson on the East Gros Ventre Butte across from the Virginian Lodge on W. Broadway.

People living in the following areas should be set and ready to evacuate if needed:

Spring Creek Ranch and Spring Creek Resort Amangani Resort Pine Siskin Rd

Emergency personnel suggests residents to gather important papers, medications, and your family’s emergency kit. Place it in your vehicle, back your vehicle into your driveway or garage with the door open, and remain vigilant. If at any point you feel your life is in danger and you have not received an evacuation order, leave immediately.

Fire officials are calling it the Virginian Fire which is north of the Virginian Lodge.
