Recovery centers are saving you money
Addiction is a crisis that can be found in any community.
Resource centers in Idaho Falls want to clarify some misconceptions about their facilities.
The Behavior Health Crisis Center and Center of Hope are places for people to find hope and recovery.
Mark Cukurs, a volunteer coordinator at Center of Hope said, “It’s important for me to celebrate recovery because I’m in recovery myself. One of the misnomers in the community is that recovery is not always possible and I’m a firm believer that it is.”
These two resources centers share a building, but they are not the same thing.
The Crisis Center is a place where a person can seek immediate recovery help whereas the Center of Hope is a place to help people who may be considering to relapse.
Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Samuel Hulse says these facilities are necessary for the community and it also saves us a bit of money.
Hulse said, “When a law enforcement officer is interacting with a person instead of the option of taking them to the emergency room or jail facility they have the option of the Crisis Center to get them reconnected to services that will hopefully keep them from remaining in crisis.”
Cukurs said, “A recovery community of people of like-mindedness and people that can support of the people is proven to be the only way that people can find recovery.”
The Center of Hope worries that community members think these facilities are mainly supported by our tax dollar.
They would like to clarify that this is not true.
Hulse said, “They receive money through the millennial funds, additionally they received money from IROC Idaho response to the opioid crisis which is through the office of drug policies through the state and they also receive money through the United Way.”
They all get funding through donations.
Supports believe this is money well spent.
“Here is a place where people can get away from their past life and find a new supportive life,” said Cukurs.
Those who work at the Crisis Center worry that people may not come in and seek the help they need because they worry that they will not be able to leave.
This is not true. You are able to come and go through the Crisis Center as you please.
