Updated Christmas weekend forecast
Another front blows through with rain showers by 3pm and drive time for Santa. Winter weather advisories in effect for Teton and Lincoln through Christmas day at 5pm. Winter storm warning in effect for Sun Valley with a foot of snow over the next few days. Wind Advisory is in effect for lower Snake River Plain, Magic and Treasure Valley. Winds gusts have already gotten to 45+mph in the southern Snake River plain. Blackfoot and Pocatello with close to 50 mph wind gusts this morning. Highs will be in the 50s today as the warmest day of the period.
It's not likely you'll see any snowflakes until late tomorrow Christmas night and into Friday morning, a skiff of snow for Idaho Falls, an inch or 2 for Rexburg. 2-4+ inches for Jackson. Scattered snow showers for the colder air that will mix in after the second front Friday, with accumulations in the eastern highlands and the southeast mountains 4-8" possible and a foot of snow isn't out of the question for Island Park and West Yellowstone...but it's after Christmas. Still mild tomorrow, 50s, for Christmas Day and brisk with winds gusting to 30+mph.
Merry Christmas from my family to yours, and be safe driving to church and to family today and tonight.
Jeff, Ho-Ho, Roper in the morning, First Alert Weather
