Cold weekend ahead with gusty winds and freezing temperatures

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI)- A wind advisory is in place for the Snake River Plain and Arco desert until 10pm Saturday night. Temperatures on Sunday will struggle to reach the mid-40's to mid-50's. Freeze warning in effect for our growing zones, with hard freezes possible in some areas.

Wind will blow through the area for the rest of Saturday night with the wind advisory in place. Sustained winds between 20 to 29 mph will continue into the evening with gusts reaching the upper-40 mph range. The strongest winds will be across the Arco Desert where gusts could exceed 50 mph.

In addition to the wind, there is also a freeze warning that will be in place overnight into Sunday from 3am to 9am for the Snake River Plain, Eastern Magic Valley, and Arco and Mud Lake Desert. A hard freeze is possible for Craters of the Moon to Mud Lake.

The breezes will continue into Sunday. The high will be in the low 50's with winds 6 to 11 mph. Gusts could get up to 21 mph under mostly cloudy skies.

The wind will pick up Sunday night with sustained winds increasing to 16 to 23 mph and gusts reaching as high as 36 mph. There is also a 20 percent chance of precipitation overnight into Monday morning with a slight chance of rain after midnight, mixing with snow after 3 am.

More of the same when it comes to the wind on Monday. Gusts expected to be up to 36 mph with sustained winds around 17 to 23 mph. The high will be near 54. More freezing temperatures with the overnight low around 31.

A warmup starts to take hold on Tuesday as more seasonable temperatures take over for the rest of the week.
