Wyoming Gov Mark Gordon tests positive for COVID-19

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - Wyoming Gov. Mark Gordon has tested positive for COVID-19, but has only minor symptoms, he said Wednesday.

Gordon said he planned to continue working remotely.

The governor's office at the Wyoming State Capitol was closed on Tuesday for a deep cleaning after another office employee tested positive for the respiratory virus.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends people with COVID-19 isolate themselves for 10 days after their symptoms begin.

Less than two weeks ago, Gordon said Wyoming residents needed to be more responsible about preventing the spread of COVID-19.

"We've relied on people to be responsible, and they're being irresponsible. They think somehow this is all nonsense," he said on Nov. 13, in announcing that he was considering new public health orders.

People are being "knuckleheads" about the virus, he said at the time.

Gordon joins nearly 26,700 Wyoming residents who have tested positive for COVID-19.

Gordon quarantined for 14 days in early November due to a possible exposure during a meeting in Riverton attended by Dr. Deborah Birx, a member of the White House Coronavirus Task Force. He subsequently tested negative.
