Lightning strikes start fires
Lightning is sparking several new fires across the region Wednesday.
Eastern Idaho Fire Interagency Center said that they are working on several fires.
Two are in Power County.
One fire was burning near Massacre Rocks near Interstate 86. Power County and EIIFC crews were working that blaze. As of 4 p.m. Wednesday, the fire was contained at 200 acres. There was talk of closing I-86 between Mileposts 21 and 28 (American Falls and Burley) but it did not happen.
Another fire is burning new Knox Creek in Power County, which is in the Arbon Valley.
They are also working on three other new fires along with those still burning near Atomic City and near Craters of the Moon National Monument.
We’ll keep working on updating these stories. The EIIFC is updating its map of fires periodically athttp://www.idahofireinfo.blm.gov/east/info_current.html.
