Sandcreek Middle School class cashes in

Sandcreek Middle School in Ammon is earning some serious money and prizes from Samsung.

It’s part of the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow competition. Mike Jarvis’ earth science classes have already won two tablets, a video camera and laptop for it’s earthquake project.

The class will earn far more, though. Jarvis’ and a couple of students will present its project before a panel of judges in Austin, Texas, where only 15 remaining classes will compete. Five of them will earn $140,000 in technology from Samsung, while the remaining 10 classes automatically earn $35,000 for making it.

“It’s a great opportunity for our class to be involved and to see that we are a standout school in the country, and not just Idaho,” said Jarvis. “Our kids are amazing.”

One class will will win the $140,000 and a trip to Washington, D.C., for winning the Community Choice Award. The award is won by receiving the most online votes. With 16 days left to vote, Sandcreek Middle School is in 12th place with 12 votes. G.W. Carver Middle School in Florida leads the voting with 234.
