Driver killed after truck crashes into pillar

A semi-truck crashed into a pillar supporting an overpass west of Burley early Friday morning, killing the driver and prompting the partial closure of Interstate 84.

The overpass, 850 West, will be closed indefinitely.

Idaho State Police said Harold Gow, 50, of Missoula, Montana, was driving west in a 2010 Kenworth semi-tractor pulling a trailer. Gow drifted off the road and into the median, striking the guard rail and then the overpass of 850 West. Gow died at the crash.

Westbound traffic is being routed off the freeway at exit 208, through the city of Paul, and back on the freeway at exit 201 using Idaho 27 and Idaho 25, the Idaho Transportation Department said. Only westbound traffic is restricted. One of the lanes is expected to reopen at 7 p.m. Friday. Call 511 for updated information on the closure.

There were no other injuries or deaths in the crash, which occurred around 5 a.m. It is being investigated by the ISP.

The same overpass was hit about three years ago in the westbound lanes and was closed for a year until it was repaired, ITD said.
