One-month mark of the search for Deorr Kunz Jr.
Lemhi County Sheriff’s Office has been assisted by the FBI over the past month to find 2-year-old Deorr Kunz Jr.
Dogs, divers, searchers on foot, drones and a heat-seeking helicopter are just a few of the resources being used in this search.
There have been efforts to bring in another volunteer search, but locals in Leadore believe search time needs to be spent somewhere else.
Rebecca Cox, owner of The Silver Dollar Bar and Cafe, said, “I don’t think he’s up there.” “It’s so rural up there and the drive up there. No one would be going up there to look for a kid to kidnap. They just wouldn’t drive up. You wouldn’t want to go up there. The road is horrible.”
“It’s devastating,” Cox said. “Search and Rescue and all the town’s people…everyone went out there. We sent out food. All of the town’s people made food and sent it out there. There were a lot of people out there looking.”
It’s been one month, but the search stays strong. No one is giving up on Deorr.
Although, the people of Leadore think that maybe the search is in the wrong place.
The lack of evidence, of any kind, has many asking ‘what are the other options?’
“There’s been a lot of people up there. A lot, a lot, a lot of people. Even after the search was don’t there’s been people,” Cox said.
“I think he would have been found if he was. Don’t you?”
She said other theories don’t seem likely either.
“It’s so rural up there and the drive up there. No one would be going up there to look for a kid to kidnap. They just wouldn’t drive up– have you been up to stone reservoir?– you wouldn’t want to go up there the road is horrible.”
The search continues, as well as support for the family. It’s a unanimous goal, bring Deorr home.
Cox said, “How do you ever stop crying about losing a child.”
As of right now the Lemhi County Sheriff’s Office will continue with search plans assisted by the FBI.
