Local first responders honor 9-11 firefighters

Local first responders commemorated 9/11 today on the fourteenth anniversary of the attacks.

The Ammon Fire Department set out thirty-five sets of turn out gear and hung a flag off of its ladder truck to remind not just themselves of the day, but the public as well.

They also showed off new decal designed in remembrance of the 343 firefighters lost that day. The firefighters said that this helps them remember their brothers that died at the world trade center, and those who have died since, due to health problems. The Ammon Fire Department wanted to remind the public that they’re still here, and still strong.Firefighters also said that 9-11 reminded them of how serious the job is, and why they are firefighters.

“It’s something in our tradition in our fire service that we always remember our brothers that have fallen. And we just wanted to do our own little thing to pay respect for them,” says Jon Molbert. “We put out about thirty five sets, the majority of our department right now, there’s still a few that aren’t out there. But you know, there’s 343 guys that passed away that day, so were just doing what we could to honor them.”

The Bonneville County Sheriffs Office is also remembering the events of 9/11 today.

Captain Hulse from the Bonneville County Sheriffs Office says, “It is important to remember what happened on that day, and that those threats still exist today, but we don’t need to live in fear.”
