Ronnie Renner Free Ride Tour partners with UTV Invasion
Freestyle motocross is one of the most popular events in professional dirt biking. Bikers complete big air jumps and tricks to impress the judges, and set world records for their death-defying stunts.
For these guys, risking their lives for the trick is part of their day job. Riders from all over the world have picked up freestyle MX, trying to out jump the next guy. Idaho has one of the best freestyle training sites in the U.S.
Ronnie Renner, champion freestyle rider, said, “Freestyle came around, free riding came along and I worked my way out West, where you have all these mountains and hills, and sand dunes and it gravitated toward my riding style.”
The St. Anthony sand dunes are home of UTV Invasion.
“This place is unique, I like St. Anthony because it’s in the middle of this potato field,” Renner said. “You know, it’s this massive plain that has these mountains of sand erupting out of it.”
Ronnie Renner is one of the most well-known free style motocross riders in the business. He holds the world record for the Highest Sony Moto X Step Up Jump at 47 feet.
“What a great excuse to come, you know, to the UTV Invasion. I felt like it was a good time to mix the Renner Free Ride Tour,” he said.
The Ronnie Renner Free Ride Tour partnered with UTV Invasion to show the value the Idaho sand dunes have to the motocross community.
“As a rider, the place just like blows over and is just fresh every day,” he said. “It’s like a clean slate. And the people up here are just second to none.”
With those people, Renner led a group ride through the dunes.
“I’m the dirt bike guy who’s doing this slow transition into four-wheel. One of the cooler things I like about the UTV world is the comradery of all these families, all these people going out together. You look over your shoulder and it’s surreal,” he said.
Though Renner may be changing his vehicle, his love for the dirt remains.
“Now I’m getting up there in the years I’m going against kids in motocross that are 18 and crazy,” Renner said. “Where I don’t want to throw myself out there anymore, the risk-to-reward ratio is jacked. These UTVs like Polaris is one of my sponsors and they make the best UTV, I can treat it like I do my dirt bike and just go mental. It’s keeping my career alive and giving me some just new ideas.”
Renner hopes to be back on the St. Anthony sand dunes in the near future.
